Mrs. Baskin-Mathews Class
BA in Mathematics
MAT is Secondary Mathematics Education
8 years teaching Mathematics
I base my teaching philosophy on the foundation that every student is capable of learning mathematics. However, some students believe that they are not mathematically gifted, therefore incapable of learning mathematics. I believe the contrary, that all students with motivation sustained by the teacher and confidence in his/her mathematical skills are essential to the student’s success in the classroom.
My job as an educator is to work hard and help my students be successful. I am also charged with teaching my students math, reducing their anxiety about learning the subject, and enabling them to become lifelong learners. I am aware that many of my students fear mathematics and that some of concepts may seem challenging. It is my belief that when my students can discuss and apply the knowledge that is gained in a classroom setting to the real world, they can learn to understand and appreciate the material being presented.
“Don’t give up on it. Just stick with it. Don’t listen to people who always tell you it’s hard, and walk away from it.” ~Annie Easly
